"...I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth." Isaiah 49:6?:

Simply, The L-rd declares that Israel will serve as a beacon, for The L-rd, to all nations and peoples.

Purpose?:

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15

Simply, to study, "rightly Divide"(i.e. interpret correctly), and represent the biblical text as intelligently as possible.
